We are searching for info on/anyone who served with Ken WILD, AKA "OSCAR" Ldg Writer, during 1943-47 in the E.Med /Italy/Malta. He served on FABIUS, running between Barletta, Zadar, Venice & then Trieste. He trained at Royal Arthur and London. He didnt talk about his WW2 time much so we are hoping to piece history together. Any info will be gratefully receieved. Will be wearing his medals on Veterans Day with pride.

20th September 2007 in Liverpool, Vic Admiral Michael Gretton launched the fund to raise 2 million to bring HMS Whimbrel back from Egypt. As a memorial to the Battle of the Atlantic. The last Black Swan Class sloop still afloat.
These group of ships sank 20 U-boats during WW11 under the command of Captain J.Walker.

I have just recently joined the Southend Branch as a associate member as I was in the Merchant Navy, but I like to think I am keeping up the tradition of my Father who served in the R.N from 1929 to 1945. After the war he became a member of the Ilford Essex branch of the association which held it meetings at the Valentine pub Gants Hill I wonder if any one remembers that branch.

2. I was a Malaysian Navy Artificer Apprentice - OEA who joined HMS Fisgard in 1972. Class of 722 P at an age of 19+.

4. I spent a year at HMS Fisgard, before I was posted to HMS Collingwood for further training - Lt. Crouch Baker was my DO in 1973/74.

6. I returned to HMS Collingwood, in 1975 to finish my Final training, I was living in 2nd Floor of Jutland Block.

7 Subsequently I went to HMS Excellent for Surface Weapons & HMS Vernon for Underwater Weapons training before returning to HMS Collingwood.

8. In late December 1976, I flew back to Singapore to rejoin the Royal Malaysian Navy. I spent a total of 4 + years in the Royal Navy.

9. Attached is my current photograph. I shall be 55 years old this February.

I wish to sadly announce the passing away of my father Clifford John Asbury MBE, who served upon HMS Kelly during WW2 with the late great Lord Louis Mountbatten. my father was a very proud man and didn't like to talk about the friends he lost during his several sinkings in the war, he will be sorely missed.
