Remembering Stoker 1st Class Wilfred James (Jimmy) Findon, P/KX89100 aged 22 H.M.S. Glowworm. K.I.A. 8th April 1940.
H.M.S. Glowworm was sunk off Norway following its action against the German cruiser "Admiral Hipper". Outgunned by the Hipper, Glowworm skippered by Lt Commander Broodmeade Roope rammed the Hipper causing her extensive damage. Roope was lost along with 107 hands but following a recommendation
by Hippers Captain Helmuth Heye, Roope was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
We will remember them.

I have a Royal Naval Association diary which I found some years ago but has just come to light again following a house move.
It is for 1954 & belonged to a J H Palmer (rank unknown) of The Red House, in Surrey. A ship is mentioned but is unreadable apart from what looks like HMS Fat..... The owner played a lot of rugby and the names Jack, Fred, Taffy and Paddy Barber are referred to along with Peter Mears & Andy McDonald.

If anyone or their families recognize this at all, I would be happy to return the diary to the rightful owner

Dear Sirs,

I am trying to find the remaining Veterans who participated in the Arctic Convoy near Russia’s coastlines, eligible for Russian Arctic Medal, but who had no opportunity to claim it yet.

This is for the Celebration of May 9 VE Day (which I am organising) and the award ceremony, which will take place on the day in the presence of Russian Naval Veterans from Archangel.

I appreciate that there’s not much time left, but hope to hear from at least one Veteran.

Yours faithfully,

Eugene

My Late Grandfather was a Roal Navy Commando D-Dday vetran"survivor" by all accounts, decorated on the Beach By Field Marshall Montgomary with a couple of star ciggarettes for fool hardiness done very bravely..He was an Able seaman,a self reliant disciplined man..The best Grandfather I could have wished"my best mate"..gone five years ago this month..

some years ago he was last minute invited to a British legion celebration of D-Day..
At the door the retired RSM said he cant come in hes to young...a club member spoke and said to the retired rsm"you dont know where hes been"...well after D-day..whatever he had to do hed quite convieniently kept quite about..

"to young he said, lovely, thatll do me" then about turned and said "Im a naval man, sling you hook"...as he walked off,the RSM said "years ago Id have him on a charge"...They said at the door,"years ago you wouldnt have caught him"....Top Bloke...

Roayl Navy commando forever then!!!
