I am trying to find the current whereabouts of the bell from HMS Rothesay. I was christened in it in the early 80's and would like to know where it is - the ship was sold for scrap in 1988 to a spanish company

Hello

I wonder if someone in the Abergavenny branch could help me? I would like to get in touch with Percy Bowman who used to live in Gwent Place, Mardy, and was active in the Abergavenny group 10 or 15 years ago.

I know yo wouldn't be able to give me an address for privacy reasons but thought someone might be able to pass on an envelope.

The reason I'm anxious for this to happen is that when I lived in Abergaveny as a teenager some 40 years ago, Percy, who was a motor mechanic (and served as such in the Royal Navy in WWll)was my mentor. Indeed, he sold me my first motor car when I was 15 (1964). The car, an Austin Big Seven still exists in first class condition (a tribute to Percy's custody all those years ago) and I have recently received a magazine with an article about the Austin and some intervening history plus a recent picture.

I thought Percy would be interested and possibly thrilled by this situation and would like to send him the publication.

Can you help.

Yours faithfully and warmest seasonal greting from very snowy France!

Martyn Nutland

PS My late father, Bill Nutland, served on HMS Fame circa 1943/44 but was not in the Association.

Jimmy lives in Jersey C.I. and still works! He runs a 2nd hand furniture store and is in good health. If you remember Jimmy please contact via my email. I will post an ancient picture of him (if he allows!)

I've tried forces reunited without success, I joined HMS Daedalus as a national serviceman along with anumber of other chaps in August 1955,then went to HMS Gamecock, and onto HMS Siskin. from there joined HMS Centaur as AH1, hangar party, and did a cruise to far east, on returning to uk went to HMS Goldcrest until August 1957, when my time was up.I made a good many friends during my service, and had some good times.Les Howard from Camden Town and Barry Smith also from the London area amongst them, and have a great deal of photographs of other friends made.If your out there, give us a bell.
